ASTANA. From February 4 to 10, the official visit of the Deputy Secretary General for Maritime Economy, Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications of Estonia, Kaupo Läänerand, to Kazakhstan took place. As part of the visit, the Vice-Chancellor visited the cities of Aktau, Astana, Almaty, as well as a dry port Khorgos.
The visit to Aktau consisted of a visit to the main ports of Kazakhstan — Aktau and Kuryk ports, then meetings were held with representatives of the akimat, the national company Kazmortansflot and others. Estonian ports noted that they are ready to accept cargo from Kazakhstan, also work out the shipment of cargo to Kazakhstan, increase the volume of cargo transportation between countries, and also share their best practices in this industry in every possible way.
In Astana, the visit began from a meeting of the intergovernmental working group at the Ministry of Industry and Infrastructure Development, which was headed by Vice Minister Almaz Idyrysov from the Kazakh side and Vice Chancellor Kaupo Läänerand from the Estonian side. The sides agreed that after the removal of Covid restrictions, such meetings should be organized more often. A separate meeting was also held at Kazakhstan Temir Zholy JSC. B2B meetings were organized together with the Chamber of Commerce Atameken and the Estonian Chamber of Commerce , which gave good results.
B2B meetings were continued at the Foreign Chamber of Commerce in Almaty. The last and no less important part of the visit was a visit to the dry transport port of Kazakhstan — Khorgos. Representatives of the port shared the activities of the port in detail and voiced their readiness for the exchange of experience and cooperation.
Kaupo Läänerand noted the important strategic position of Kazakhstan in the world and readiness to open up new opportunities for cooperation and invited representatives of transport and logistics structures to Estonia to exchange experience and further negotiations. The Ambassador of Estonia, Toomas Tirs, noted the readiness of the embassy to help establish and improve relations between the two countries.
